Yet, it is an unpopular concept as it requires your relatives to run from pillar to post to get a visa for you. So, instead people prefer to go with tourist visa or business visa.

Transit visa

This is meant for those people who are traveling to some other country but have to halt in Russia under their break journey. It is issued for 10 days and is non-extendable. For this you need to show up your onward ticket to your destination and the visa of the place you are actually going.

Exit visa

It is for those who stay here even a day longer than their visa allotted dates. This stay can be for any reasons as- flight rescheduling or medical case or else may be your company wants you to stay for longer duration. In case of your flight rescheduling you will get an emergency exit visa in the airport itself. But for medical case you need a doctor's prescription. Business purpose visa is risky and expensive so, it is always suggested that you come with extra time in hand. Failing to produce an exit visa (for your extra stay into the country) during your departure can land you to jail for illegal staying.
